This is a polished Icelandic Ghoststone on a silver chain. This particular stone is completely white and without any “blemishes”. After having polished the stone we decided to experiment a little and chose to mount it on a hammered silver ring. We are quite happy with the result and have elaborated on this concept with differently shaped stones and hammered rings. The stone is approx. 18 mm chalcedony and comes on a 50 cm (19.69 inches) long sterling silver chain.
FYI: If you rub two Ghoststones together in the dark they will glow. It’s an example of triboluminescence where light is generated through the braking of chemical bonds in a material when it is pulled apart, ripped, scratched, crushed, or as in this case; rubbed. Triboluminescence is not fully understood but it appears to be caused by the separation and reunification of electrical charges.
